Oshkosh Airventure - Day Two

Our second day at Oshkosh looked like it was going to be a wash.  It was drizzling and overcast as we enjoyed our breakfast.  Didn't look like a good day for airshows or walking around.  But the weather gods smiled on us (and the many other airplane enthusiasts) as the sun partially came out and dried things up a bit. So we boarded the shuttle bus from our camp at Circle-R campground and made our way to the airport. My goal today was to check out the Sonex booth.  It was closed by the time we made it over there yesterday. Airventure involves a lot of walking.  No problem racking up 10,000+ steps on the FitBit.  Nancy was a trooper.  Never complained about walking around with her airhead husband while he ogled and drooled over all the airplanes.

Oshkosh Airventure 2016 - Day One

And what a day it has been!  Oshkosh Airventure is THE airshow to go to.  The biggest, best run, best entertaining airshow we have ever experienced.  Besides the fly-in of thousands of aircraft of all types, the airshow started at 2pm and went on until 7pm followed by a NIGHT airshow and fireworks that just blew our minds!

Two days of Normal

Normal Illinois that is.  Learned that this area is the "twin cities" of Bloomington and Normal Illinois locally known as "BloNo".  Hey, you can't make this stuff up.  That is really what the local "Normalites" call it.  Our hosts, very normal people Lindsay and Louie Muciollo showed us the town.  Here are some of the hotspots of BloNo.

A lot of Normal references during the two days.  Normal traffic, Normal weather, etc.  Lots of fun reconnecting with Lou and Lindsay.  Haven't seen them in about 14 or so years.  So it was nice to spend a couple of days with them. Next - it's on to Oshkosh!

First Night in the RV - And getting here

Our first stop.  Buckeye Lake KOA just south east of Columbus Ohio.  Not a bad first trip.  Crossing the mountains in WV, MD, and PA was a chore for the RV.  Seems to not like climbing much over 50MPH.  So far gas mileage has been about 7-8MPG.  Arrgh!  Not too efficient.  But considering all the hills we climbed and that we used the generator for a couple of hours while loading before departure, that may not be so bad. Will check after next few fill ups to see where MPG stabilizes.  So here we are setup at our first campground/RV park.

We only stayed the night.  Departed around 11AM bound for Normal, Illinois to make a quick visit with our friends Louie and Lindsay Mucciolo.

Got the RV - Loading for the Journey

Picked up the RV today.  Drove it home from the rental center in Manassas Virginia.  Loaded it up this evening and ready to hit the road in the morning.  

This is the Standard RV we rented from Cruise America.  It's 25 ft long.  Basically this is a Thor Class C motor coach known as a Four Winds motor coach.  It is based on a Ford F-350 truck/van frame.  Powered by a Triton V-8 gas engine.

Who are we?

Nancy and Greg.  Best friends, Lovers, and life long mates.  Married 1983 and still in love.

Greg is twice retired.  First after over 20 years in the US Coast Guard.  Then for about 21 years as an IT consultant working in the DC area.  Also a commercial Pilot and since retirement has been known to be a paid tax preparer, automobile salesman, and school bus driver.

Nancy is not retired.   At one time a wall street executive secretary and mother, raised two sons and now has found her niche as a teacher.  Also the best wife a guy could wish for.

We enjoy each other and want to explore and see what this is like.  Traveling and living in an R/V - not full time (yet) not sure if that's for us.  But we do have an interest in traveling around US and North America.  So let's see what happens.  Follow us on our exploration.

This is where we will start.

The beginning of a trip.  Together exploring.  That is what we want to try.  Renting a motorhome to experience what it will be like.  To live, travel, and explore the wonderful and interesting.

We are renting a Class C motor home from Cruise America for two weeks.  Our plan is to try this out to decide if we eventually want to purchase one.  This is something we have talked about for a while.  We decided this is a good way to "try before you buy".  And, if it is something we like, the rental fee for this R/V may be applied to the purchase of a motor coach.
